A Kohn-Sham system at zero temperature

چکیده
An one-dimensional Kohn-Sham system for spin particles is considered which effectively describes semiconductor nanostructures and which is investigated at zero temperature. We prove the existence of solutions and derive a priori estimates. For this purpose we find estimates for eigenvalues of the Schrödinger operator with effective Kohn-Sham potential and obtain W 1,2-bounds of the associated particle density operator. Afterwards, compactness and continuity results allow to apply Schauder’s fixed point theorem. In case of vanishing exchangecorrelation potential uniqueness is shown by monotonicity arguments. Finally, we investigate the behavior of the system if the temperature approaches zero. Subject classification: 34L40, 34L30, 47H05, 81V70

Symmetry breaking in the self-consistent Kohn-Sham equations
The Kohn-Sham (KS) equations determine, in a self-consistent way, the particle density of an interacting fermion system at thermal equilibrium. We consider a situation when the KS equations are known to have a unique solution at high temperatures and this solution is a uniform particle density. We show that, at zero temperature, there are stable solutions that are not uniform. We provide the ge...

We demonstrate that the zero-temperature conductance of the Anderson model can be calculated within the Landauer formalism combined with static density-functional theory. The proposed approximate functional is based on finite-temperature density-functional theory and yields the exact Kohn-Sham potential at the particle-hole symmetric point. Furthermore, in the limit of zero temperature it corre...
متن کاملFinite-temperature second-order many-body perturbation theory revisited
We present an algebraic, nondiagrammatic derivation of finite-temperature second-order many-body perturbation theory [FT-MBPT(2)], using techniques and concepts accessible to theoretical chemical physicists. We give explicit expressions not just for the grand potential but particularly for the mean energy of an interacting many-electron system. The framework presented is suitable for computing ...
متن کاملAccuracy of density functionals for molecular electronics: The Anderson junction
The exact ground-state exchange-correlation functional of Kohn-Sham density functional theory yields the exact transmission through an Anderson junction at zero bias and temperature. The exact impurity charge susceptibility is used to construct the exact exchange-correlation potential. We analyze the successes and limitations of various types of approximations, including smooth and discontinuou...

We compare the conductance of an interacting ring with six lattice sites threaded by flux π in a two terminal setup with the conductance of the corresponding Kohn-Sham particles. Based on symmetry considerations we can show that even within (lattice) Density Functional Theory employing the exact Kohn-Sham exchange-correlation functional the conductance of the Kohn-Sham particles is exactly zero...
